If you want a feast for the eyes and for the soul, stay at the Hotel Medio Mundo in Merida, Yucatan. Everywhere you look, as you sit by the
pool or in the patio with the fountain singing, you will see beautiful
colors. The staff is wonderful, huge smiles and helpful in all ways. The
owners, Nicole and Nelson do everything they can to make your stay
peaceful, they will also arrange any day trips you might wish to take.
The bedrooms are restful and again filled with color. The breakfasts are
generous with only the freshest fruit and juice. Having spent two weeks
there, I can say that I would return with great pleasure at any time.

Aquí en Suiza un verano extraordinario con temperaturas parecidas a las de Mérida (en abril, cuando nosotros estuvimos en su hotel) se está acabando. Por eso, los domingos por la manana nos ponemos las playeras de "MedioMundo", como Nelson nos a aconsejado, y sonamos con Mérida - y la gran sonrisa aparece automaticamente...

Vinimos a pasar unos dias a Mérida y unos amigos nos recomendaron que nos hospedáramos aquí. Nada de lo que nos dijeron puede compararse a la realidad. Les faltó sobre todo el decirnos la calidad del recibimiento de Nicole y Nelson, el calor humano y la simpatía que emana de su conversación y la cultura que su conversación desprende. No es que hayan recorrido ellos mucho mundo, sino que han “entendido” a sus gentes, sus culturas, sus suenos, sus frustraciones y sus anhelos. La calidad de unos “hosts” cuya humanidad hace nuestra estancia un regalo, no la olvidaremos, unos dias maravillosos y volveremos.

Mike and I had a fabulous time-even with hurricane Isidoro! and Mike being ill. We really enjoyed the pool (with our inflatable beach ball-highly recomended sport) Breakfast each day was lovely. Nicole’s homeopathic cure for nausea worked like a miracle.

It has been such an amazing discovery to find the MedioMundo. We knew Merida had some nice hotels but this place is "AWESOME." We love it and we are sad to be leaving. We have taken photos to help remind us of the wonderful designs, the decorations, the colours, foliage, and water. Add to the setting, the very warm welcome and kind hospitality and this place is our dream hotel.
We want to tell all our friends about this place because it is a real treasure. It will inspire us to re-decorate our little dark house in cold, windy and wet England. The MedioMundo is truly an oasis of tranquil beauty and calm in the center of a busy city. Nelson and Nicole are "miracle workers" as you can tell from the "Before" pictures of this 100+year old building. With their vision it has become a beautifully refreshing place. We enjoyed the sumptuous breakfasts by the pool, the clean open air rooms and the peace of the bubbling water. The wonderful plantings and pottery add to the charm. I was amazed by the bright bold colors when I first stepped in. The colors of the walls, furniture, vases, bedspreads, plants… everything. I fell inlove with them at first sight. We were planning on only staying here one night BUT once we saw our room and the pool and how beautiful everything was, we couldn’t resist, we stayed the whole week! This is definitely the most relaxing, most gorgeous hotel we have ever stayed in – in all our travels throughout Mexico. We loved the owners, the staff, gracias… muchas gracias a Oresztesz! Peligro! - Warning! -
Entering the MedioMundo may be detrimental to your travel plans
Oh… it started innocently enough: laundry accidently left in Akumal leading to a "chance" meeting at the bus station with a cheery, chatty English girl named Katherine; an Italian waiter placed in Tulum reading the oceans predicting lousy weather, discouraging us to head South, the "snap" decision to come to Merida (how subtle and effective the power of suggestion). Yes, the tentacles of the MedioMundo are far-reaching and seductive indeed.
Then… THE TRAP:
"You have a daughter? We have 2 kids of our own… she likes to swim? We have a swimming pool (how coincidental!) … Want cats? We got those too! … What's that you say? You're a capoerista? Well, we just happen to be having a Capoeira party happening on Saturday! " Nelson, did you really expect us to believe all that?
Yet, by the time we realized that the trap had been set, it had already been sprung!
Was it the softness of the beds? The coolness of the air? The breeze undulating in the courtyard? Or maybe it was that first welcoming glass of "Jamaica" (was it spiked?), something in the water, the air conditioning? Had our daughter been brainwashed - was that why she didn't want to leave?
All we know is that was over a week ago, a 2-day visit stretched into 8 and it is only with all our strength that we can extricate ourselves from its warm and familiar embrace.
My only advise to people strolling down Calle 55 towards its Azul gates of this establishment is: RUN!
